If you're considering transferring your catalog to Stem from a previous distributor, here's what you need to know to ensure a smooth transition.
Before You Begin:
- Notify your account manager that you intend on transferring content
- Do not request that your current distributor take down your content immediately.
How to Transfer Your Content:
-
In the Stem app, navigate to the MANAGE CONTENT tab and select ‘Content Transfer’ under ‘Audio Release Tools’.
-
Follow the standard upload process and ensure all metadata matches the original delivery exactly.
- After selecting ‘Content Transfer’, proceed with the usual steps for uploading your content.
- Important: Make sure that all metadata— titles (album and track names), artist names and roles, UPCs, ISRCs, audio files, duration, and original release date—is identical to the original delivery.
Any differences in metadata can decrease the chances of successful track-linking between platforms.
-
Set the future live date at least 7 days ahead.
- The app will automatically set the live date to one week from the current date. You can adjust this date if you prefer a later release, but it cannot be sooner than 7 days ahead.
After Submission:
Your account manager will notify you when the content is live, so you can initiate a takedown request with your previous distributor to remove their version. Duplicate versions of your release may appear on platforms temporarily until your previous distributor completes the removal process. YouTube Content ID Users: Consider reaching out sooner to prevent ownership conflicts.
Important Note
If the metadata and reference files provided to Stem are not identical to those supplied to your current distributor, we cannot guarantee that the data will merge successfully.
